Airport Police Career Opportunities
Airport police career opportunities
Since creation of the department in 1995, our airport police continue our quest to become leaders in airport safety and security. We’re interested in professionals who will join us in achieving a work environment that fosters pride, creativity and individual achievement while in the process exemplifying Columbus Regional Airport Authority core values: Service, Teamwork, Accountability, Innovation and Respect.
Earning the respect of our community by consistently providing high-quality safety and customer service drives us to succeed in our daily work. Our standards are high as evidenced by our accreditation being repeatedly renewed since 2005 by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA).
Training and re-training are keys to our success. In addition to the training required to be certified by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission, each airport police officer completes 12 weeks of field training. All airport police officers undergo state mandated training and proficiency testing as well as a specially designed in-service training course each year.
Airport police officers are encouraged to develop at least one specialty, and Columbus Regional Airport Authority supports the time and training involved to develop those skills. Specialized lines of service may include:
- Narcotics Task Force
- Canine (narcotics and explosive detection)
- Crisis Intervention Team
- Hostage Negotiators
- Training Officers
- Crime Scene Technicians
- Detective Bureau
- Bicycle Patrol Officers
- Community Policing Officers
